Team Moana Hangi

Today me and my buddies did an animation for our up coming hangi we're going to do on the 6th of December 2019.  In this animation we had to write down and picture the procedure of a hangi. My buddies were Buster and Cameron. What I liked about this is we had the choice to make an animation. What I found hard is making the characters.

Christmas Decorations

Kia Ora, my name is Tristan McKain from Ohaeawai Primary School. This week we have been doing Christmas Decorations. I did a toilet roll snowman. And I think it’s worth $1.50 each and I also did another snowman, but with my friend buster. What I liked about it was that we could choose what we could do. What I didn’t like about was that we had to wait for the paint to dry.

How To Make:

  1. Toilet roll
  2. Hot glue gun
  3. White paint
  4. Googly eyes or drawn eyes
  5. 4 paper strip

My ambition for 2020

This year I am a year 5 at Ohaeawai Primary School. I have enjoyed learning new things and using the Chromebook I've been given to do my work.
My favourite thing that has happened is the new classroom I like the bright orange walls. It is mt favourite colours.
My least favourite thing is lost property because it never goes away.

Next year I am a year 6.
My goal for 2020 is to have good maths skills.
To help the rubbish problem we should have a daily rubbish pickup to help solve this problem.
I don't want to become a young leader, but I want to be helpful at our school.

Margaret Peters Spelling 2019 Term 4

Kia Ora, everyone
Today, we sat the Margaret Peters Spelling Test. I scored 50 which gives me a spelling age of 13.3
At the beginning of the year, I scored 42/60 and had a spelling age of 12.5

So, I improved my spelling age by 10 months

I think I got this result because the words were a bit harder as they went and I tried them all.

Science Fair

Kia Ora,
On the science fair we had to look out for people coming to our experiment, and tell them all about it. Or we had to check out all the different experiments. I was in a group with Mitchel, Jack, Traeh and Me, Tristan.
We made a sand volcano and ours ingredients are: NaHco3, C6h10O8, Tablespoons, Sand, Water, syringe, and a tray.

Science Exploring

Hi, this week we have been learning about science for our school science fair. So we a little science experiment using two different materials. Once we had our two different items we had to make up a wondering and a experiment along with your materials.

I found it easy to create my pictures.

I found it hard to come up with a wondering question. here is my task

Poetry Lesson 2 What is rhyme?

By Mary Ann Hoberman
What I liked is that the poem was simple
What I didn't like was the poem because there wasn't much rhyme
Here is the poem I chose.

Inquiry term 2 2019

Kia ora

This term we decided we could do something called an inquiry where we make up a wondering about Earth and beyond. So we searched for some information that is relevant to our wondering or wonderings.

I liked the part where we wrote down some facts and definitions.

The part I found hard was was when we gathered information online relating to our wonderings because it didn't explain the definitions well.

Two facts I found about my inquiry was that Uranus had rings around the planet and Neptune is covered with water.

My wondering was what is Uranus like  and why does Neptune have its name Neptune.

Here is my slide show.

Is Earth like a hard-boiled egg

We are learning about what the Earth is like on the outside and the inside. We used hard-boiled eggs as mini-models for the earth. We got to design our own continents and islands on the outside of the egg shell. At the end of the experiment we got to eat the egg! Here is a the link to the report  we wrote with the teacher at the end of the our experiment. Link

Stucture of the Earth

Structure of the Earth Facts
We are learning about the structure of the Earth.
I learnt that the Earth is made up of 4 layers. They are the Crust, Mantle, Outer core and
Inner core

Facts about each layer:
Crust - the thinnest layer on the Earth and also it is the closest layer to us.
Mantle - the mantle is a very squidgy layer/ squishy layer holding the Earth. It is the
thickest layer.
Outer Core - the outer core is like the crust because it is shielding the inner core.
It is so hot - 4000-6000' C that it is runny liquid even though it is made of rocks.
Inner Core - The inner core is the most solid layer on the Earth and also it is the hottest layer.
It is solid because of all the pressure from the other layers around it.
Our group - Buster, Me/ Tristan and Cameron
First we created a 3D image of the earth using clay.
We then cut the shape in half to show the different layers.
After waiting for it to dry, we identified each layer by painting them in different colours

Below are some pictures of our work.

Mixed-ability maths

Hello,
This term we have been put into a group called mixed-ability groups.

How I feel about it?: It's very complicated but I liked it. Why I liked it because the questions were easy and not to hard.

What I have enjoyed: I enjoyed working with other people then just my friends.

What I have found difficult?: I found working as a team difficult because most of the time my group some people were absent.

Why I find this tricky?: some questions I didn't understand like how long is the pool but we don't have a picture so we can't tell how long it is.

What can I do to change my negative thinking?: if I did have negative thinking I would say I need to work harder so I don't have negative thoughts about this math group I was put in.

How I can do it?: If we all co-operate we can get the task done faster.

The Living World Unit

Hello,
This is my living world slideshow. For the next 5 or 6 weeks we will be choosing our own activities to learn about the living world.
We did a multiple intelligence test to see what our highest categories for intelligences are.
My top three ways of learning intelligence are;
1. Musical
2.Visual
3. Kinaesthetic

I am looking forward to learning more about the living world.

Earthworms

This week we have been writing about something called digging deeper we do a simple sentence the we start to do harder sentences and that where the name came from because your going deeper into the information. And we also did an earthworm study to see how they would react to different things and what phylum they belong to. I prefer doing the earthworm study because we get to see their reactions to objects.

Earthworms 1. Earthworms prefer the dark instead of the light.

   2. Earthworms do like to wet surfaces because if they’re moist they will dry up.

3. Earthworms have 100-150 segments on their body.

4. How earthworms do MRS GREN because they move, eat, excrete and sleep.

5. Earthworms prefer to live under grass because it’s harder for their enemies to see them.

6. An earthworm belongs to a phylum family called annelida. This is a category for all WORMS.

My animal MRS GREN

We have been learning how to write explanations and also
doing research about the living world so our teachers gave us this writing task.
We learned what a fishbone diagram is and how to use a completed one to
make our own using a life form of our choice.
We had to organise the fact boxes by using MRS GREN which is an acronym
which reminds you about what life forms do.
Here is mine.
I chose to write about: venomous sea snake.
What I liked about this task: we got to write about an animal of our choice.
What was easy: inserting the picture.

Multiple intelligence test results

Here is the test I did on the Multiple Intelligences site. We did this so we could find out what strengths and weaknesses we have and we are learning.

Figure me out

A few days ago we made a google draw about ourselves questioning people using equations like my age 6x6= so basically this is a game where you tell people the equation and they have to figure the number of your age or something.
